Peggy's Resume

Peggy and Her Dream

There's something magical about Woodies ... those rare, exotic vehicles that make people sit up and take notice. Peggy compares hers to a piece of fine furniture on wheels.

For 20 years, Peggy had a picture of the Woodie taped to the back of her closet. For most of that lime, she simply imagined ownership. Finally, several years ago, her passion for this classic car became a reality.

Aficionados of the Woodie are extreme in their loyalty. Perhaps it's because the Woodie era was so brief . . . between 1928 and 1953, when only 150,000 were built. Some 10,000 still exist. Its history goes back to the 1920s, when hotel owners had "depot hacks," open wagons with wooden sides to meet trains and transport guests from depot to hotel. Thus, these vehicles became known as station wagons.

The Ford plant that built the original Woodies is located in Iron Mountain, Michigan, although Peggy discovered her car in Cayucos,California. After shipping it back to Michigan, a team of a restorer, woodworker and mechanic painstakingly began the restoration, which took over two years. She named it simply "Woodie."

While rebuilding Woodie, restorers discovered panels of authentic ribbon mahogany that had been hidden away at the factory for many years. This beautiful wood was attached to the sides of Peggy's vehicle for a spectacular finishing touch.

Today, Woodie claims the spot of honor in Peggy's garage. On special occasions, our classic lady sports him to football games for tail-gating parties, delights her granddaughter by motoring around town on girls-day-out and, of course, chauffeurs her clients to and from closings.

Peggy never stopped believing in her dream. However, she still keeps that closet reminder of her "just-hoping" days. Peggy's philosophy is really very simple . . . but a good reminder for everyone: "If you don't dream big, how you 'gonna have a dream come true?"
